sound coming but sound contols not working

recently i got a new mobo i.e
Asrock prescott with intel 845GV chipset

i installed FC3 over XP as usual.....

i checked for audio with xmms ...i could hear the music but the volume control was not working.

Same with mplayer also

this mobo has AC97 support...

the volume contol of fc3 like master,surround, pcm...all ae not working.

but everything working fine in windows XP

what should i do

can you adjust volume using alsa-mixer

i installed alsa mixer after ur query and found that the controls are not working

please give some advice
