sound card problem

ok, I'm completely new to Redhat Enterprise Linux. I have a sound card build into my mother board. according to the soundcard detection I have:
Vendor: Intel Corp.
Model: 82801eb ac'97 Audio Controller
Module:i810_audio.
the test fails says driver could not be loaded.
Can anyone help
remember now I just recently converted over from Windows so bear with me thanks.

your sound module was not (custom) compiled for your configuration, thats why i think is the problem. you may need to compile the kernel again (thats my guess)

No, you do not need to re-compile the kernel. You just need to download ALSA, compile it, and install it. Make sure you have soundcore module (driver) or else ALSA will not compile. The the bash screen or terminal type 'find / -name 'soundcore*' 2>/dev/null'. If it comes up with something similar to soundcore.o, you can install ALSA with out any problems. Make sure you have the compiler and kernel source code.

This could probably mean the module is already loaded and being used. Run lsmod to find the module. If you found it, run aumix to set the mixer settings. The utility aumix is an OSS mixer which you are using. ALSA is a better project than OSS.
