I run "sndconfig", and it could found my sound card cs4218, but reported:

1. Do you have your kernel sources installed in /usr/src/linux?
2. What is the result of 'modprobe cs4281'
3. Make/model of your computer (laptop?)
4. Please post results of 'lspci -v'

5. Also, take a look at http://www.alsa-project.org/ for even more hints and tricks.

When you installed your linux distrobution, you should also have enabled pnp (plug and play), take a look at this config, http://dag.wieers.com/howto/thinkpad...g-tp-x20-2.4.9 , it is older, but some of the same principles should work for you on sound (maybe the OSS will change), but pnp=m if you have that setting or something like it.
