sound card not detected


hi, well my problem is that my sound card isn't working. i have mandrake 9.2 installed and it was working fine ever since i installed it. and about half an hour ago i got a new desk so i unhooked everything and then put it back to gether and all the sudden the sound doesn't work. anyone have any ideas on what to do here?

it sounds like you might have plugged the speakers into the wrong output jack...

are you sure they aren't connected to the "mic-input" or something?

sometimes it's easy to accidentally hook-it-up wrong...

usually the speaker output is _green_ i think...

if everything's hooked-up right... what kinda software error messages are you getting (if any)???

well when i was trying to play a song from xmms it came up with an error just saying what could be wrong...but now, after i was messing with the drivers i press play and its playing but still no sound, kmix isn't working, i'm gonna restart to see if it works, if not i'll be back

ok i restarted and an error pops up saying

Sound server informational message:
Error while initializing the sound driver:
device/dev/dsp can't be opened (No such file or directory)
The sound server will continue, using the null output device.

kmix is still not working for me...and when i press play on xmms it comes up with the couldn't open audio msg. and it says

please check that:
1. you have the correct output plugin selected
2. no other programs are blocking the soundcard
3. your soundcard is configured properly

what was it? how'd you fix it?
