Unhappy Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Value On Mandrake 10.0 CE

Hi there, I'm using SB Audigy2 Value on Mandrake 10.0 CE(kernel 2.6.3-4mdk) and the OS still can not detect it(creative labs: unknown devices 0008) although I followed many ways from other thread like:

- Recompile the kernel, even with putting “#” in other PCI card other than emu10k1(which is the module for my card), didn’t work out.

- Recompile the kernel with built-in option in ALSA and emu10k1, still dint work out since my kernel is 2.6.3(Mandrake 10.0 CE), the built in ALSA in this kernel is 1.0.2c which I confirm from many experienced user(and work out with the same card) that Audigy 2 Value works only with 1.0.7 or newer.

- Upgrading the ALSA rpm to 1.0.8, check with “lspci”, same things happen, still dint recognized, “alsaconf” detects nothing.

- This is my last effort, after upgrading the rpm I also download the source and compile it, the only thing where I can do the “./snddevices” in the source directory, and after that I do the “alsaconf”, ALSA detected the card but this things happen on “dmesg”

snd-ac97-codec: Unknown symbol snd_ctl_remove_id
snd-ac97-codec: disagrees about version of symbol snd_component_add
......
snd-emu10k1: Unknown symbol snd_ac97_mixer
snd-emu10k1: Unknown symbol snd_ac97_bus
.... (not the complete message)

and if I run alsamixer the msg is:

alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such device

I even try to modprobe related modules :
"modprobe snd-emu10k1;modprobe snd-pcm-oss;modprobe snd-mixer-oss;modprobe snd-seq-oss"
and i can see them in lsmod, but what next? the kernel itself didn’t recognized it i cant expect more. If anyone ever made it with modprobe tell me what should I do now. And out of topic, can somebody tell me how to autoload some modules on startup(so I dont have to modprobe everytime).

Is this got something to do with the motherboard? Mine is Asus P4P800SE, and distros other than Mandrake(since) 9.2 cant even boot the installation(I try FC2, Slack9.0, Mepis).

Any suggestions are welcome, since I think I HAVE to upgrade my linux cos Mdk 10 is quite old(more than a year), should I upgrade the kernel(RPM) only? Anyway I planned to buy cheap CD cos i only got a lame a** internet connection, and I planning to have Slackware 10.1 since I read that this distro version detect my card very slick. And is it true that Slackware dont have any dependencies like RPM? And can I change the loader(LILO) to put on root partition at the installation(last time I use slack 9.0, there is no option, or maybe i forgot or something)

And if anyone has try any distros and works with Audigy2value without doing anything after installing(except gaining the volume levels maybe) u can suggest ur fave distro also. I JUST WANT2 HEAR SOUND FROM MY LINUX BOX.

thx.

I don't have your card so I can't say for sure, but Mandrake 10.0 CE is very old and basically a beta. Mandriva 2005 is out for free download from Mandriva, try it, you'll probably have better luck.
