sony dsc-p32 digital camera and recompiling my kernel. HELP!!

i was recently given a sony dsc-p32 digital camera, and have found out that i need to change one line in the directory

linux/drivers/usb/storage/unusual_devs.h

i'm a relative newbie to linux, and im wondering:

will i need to recompile my kernel after making this change in order to access my camera? it says in the fix that sd_mod, scsi_mod and usb_storage modules are needed. are these packages i need to install?

sorry if this is a stupid question

my specs

HP Pavillion 800mhz 256M RAM
Red Hat 8.0 KDE

Yes, you need to recompile the kernel after making those changes. I have a similar camera and I'm a newbie too; that was may first kernel compile. Follow the HOWTO and you should be ok.

The modules you mention are part of the kernel. They should get loaded by the hotplug scripts when you plugin the camera. Look in /var/log/messages to see what's happening when you plugin the camera.

Then simply mount the drive (probably /dev/sda1) and copy the pictures.
