Question Sony DSC-P200

Hi everyone,

I recently got a Sony DSC-P200 thinking that it would, like most Sony Cybershots, be Linux compatible. I haven't, however, been able to get it to work. When I plug it in (in normal mode), the KDE Info Center gives the following output:

Quote:
Sony DSC

Manufacturer: Sony

Class
0
((Defined at Interface level))
Subclass
0
Protocol
0
USB Version
2.00

Vendor ID
0x54c
(Sony Corp.)
Product ID
0x10
(DSC-S30/S70/S75/F505V/F505/FD92 Cybershot/Mavica Digital Camera)
Revision
5.00

Speed
480 Mbit/s
Channels
0
Max. Packet Size
0
When in PTP mode, I get
Quote:
Sony PTP

Manufacturer: Sony

Class
0
((Defined at Interface level))
Subclass
0
Protocol
0
USB Version
2.00

Vendor ID
0x54c
(Sony Corp.)
Product ID
0x4e
(DSC-xxx (ptp))
Revision
2.00

Speed
480 Mbit/s
Channels
0
Max. Packet Size
0
Note the Product ID difference.
(DSC-S30/S70/S75/F505V/F505/FD92 Cybershot/Mavica Digital Camera)
In normal mode and
(DSC-xxx (ptp))
in PTP. I don't know if this is anything of importance, though, as this is my first endevour into digital photography with Linux.

I'm willing to do some coding, but I will need lots of help if I must do so (what to work on, etc.)

A couple of times while in normal mode, my PC detected my camera as a DSC-S75.

Has anyone else had any luck getting a P200 working?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

P.S. I'm using debian.

Hi
What kernel are you using ? 2.4 or 2.6 ?
When plugged what happens if you try to mount it as root
mount -t auto /dev/sda1 /mnt/somewhere/created/first ?
Ciao

Oops. sry. It won't work in either kernel (cannot find special device sda). I'm using kernel 2.6.11 on a Duron.

I've used a DSC-P7 (I think that's the model) without problems in PTP mode..

For software, try digikam; if the camera is in PTP mode, open up digikam and scan for connected cameras - your camera should be found..

Oh, and yes, the model ID on the camera I've used is also different depending on which mode the camera is set to!

I've tried digikam, but it doesn't find the camera in either mode.
