Sony Digital Camera
I have digital camera. Its a Sony Cybershot DSC-P32 which I am trying to run on my laptop (Dell Latitude C600). I am using Mandriva 2006 as my operating system. I can't get the camera to function. Can someone tell me what I need to do? Thank a lot.
What apps if any you have tried to use to communicate with the camera? If using Digikam, just setup the camera to be mounted as a usb mass storage device.

Hey Reddazz,
Thanks for the information. What you are saying seems correct, however, I need a driver to load. I do not have a driver for that camera which could run in a Linux environment. And I find one I may not know what to do to install the driver. So if you know anything that I need to do, please let me know. Thank you very much.......
Try going to :
Start>system>configuration>KDE>peripherals>digital cameras
to see if your camera is supported.
I think some cameras are mass storage devices and some are TWAIN devices.
If mass storage then you are in luck and MDV should auto detect your camera like a USB pen drive.
If a TWAIN device then you might be out of luck unless you can find a driver. Sorry can't help you there.

Hey Trio3b,
Thank for the info. According to the info I've gathered so far, the camera is a mass storage device. However, I didn't see it auto detect or saw it as seperate device. So like I said before, I'm not sure what I should do. But thanks anyways.
If its a usb mass storage device, then you don't need any drivers. Simply plugin the camera and then click on devices (or "my computer") and your camera should be listed in there. If using KDE 3.5 it should tell you that a camera or usb mass storage device has been plugged in.
Or manually mount it the same way you would for any other USB storage device, such as a pen drive. Example
Code:
mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt/usb
Note that the device identifier is just an example and may not necessarily match your system, and of course the mountpoint must already exist. Once the device (ie, the camera) is mounted you should be able to view your photos
