SMC2662W USB Wireless adapter and linux?

has linux drivers available on the page. so i install slackware 8.1, and that goes all fine and everything. i decompress the drivers, run the setup script and it tell me everything works. so i run the configuration app fvnet, but it tell me "failed ioctl()".

so my questions are

what does that mean, and what do i have to do to make this work?

The problem here is that SMC have supplied a binary driver, that means that only SMC can help you. Your only other option is to google for info in the hope that someone else somewhere has this piece of kit working in linux.

the setup script copies a file called vnetusba-2.4.18.o to my lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/usb/ directory.

is there something i should edit to say "hey look over here for this particular usb device"?

I have the same pos modem, and can't get it to work on RH 8.0. The supplied drivers from SMC are only for RH 7.3 (I asked the tech. support), but when I loaded Rh 7.3, they still would not work. Anyone got this thing working on RH 8.0?

I can't seem to get this to work either! It works fine under Windows. However it does not work under Linux. It appears to only like certain kernels from what the instructiuons say.

Anyone have GPL'd driver?
