Slaveing CPUs together

I'm getting a few older CPUs w/ motherbords (P3/4/C 1.7 something like that) so I've got some hardware. I want to know how to slave them together, I'm not looking for a massive preformance jump, it more of a learning exp than anything else. I'm going to be using Mandrake 10.1

I have heard that it is possible to do but I don't know how to do it. Assume total

The only thing someone on our level (the average Joe that doesn't have access to a room full of computer) could get any use out of would be distributed compiling via something like distcc. I used to have my desktop work in conjunction with my family (that I never use) computer. Both are 2.0Ghz, and some compile tasks took about 2/3 the time they normally do. The speed boost varies, though. Some things compile at the same speed they normally do, and some things blaze at like four times normal speed. Your mileage may vary.

I can't think of anything else you could do with them. Make some web servers or music servers out of them.

Doggone it!, I can't remember the name, but google (www.google.com/linux) for 'cluster computing' and/or 'supercomputing' &/or 'supercluster', with & without the spaces; its there, I d***-well know it is because I was going to do a job with it.

* * * A-HAH!!!!!!! * * *

* * * BEOWOLF or BEOWULF !! * * *

I already know it can, barely, run on a group of older cpus; was to try it with 100MHz -- 300MHz, and it was known then to work with these (& lower!)

Best!,
