Might want to check for correct driver.

I had to google to find how to setup my sound drivers to get mine working. Might want to google your card and find how someone set it up on their system.

the alsa driver does have a setting for rear sound, it's just off the screen when you first load up alsamixer. so hit your right arrow key (->) a few times to get over to it.

I post almost the same question a couple of week ago and got no answer, i have a Realtek onbard sound (in linux ALC850) but alsamixer is using NVidia CK804 (i'm new to linux so i still didn't figure that out) but what Hern_28 is true, you have to configure your sound manually editing some files

I will try to setup my sound today, if i can do it i will post the source.

K i got the 5.1 sound but only using
Code:
speaker-test -Dplug:surround51 -c6
none of my applications are using the 5.1, i downloaded the lates drivers from realtek ftp://202.65.194.212/pc/audio/realte...-4.06a.tar.bz2

i installed it, opened alsamixer and then do the follow:

1. Browse to surround jack mode and change it from shared to independent

2.Adjust the volume you want:
2.1 Front Speakers: Master
2.2 Center Speaker: Center
2.3 Rear Speaker: Surround
2.4 Bass: LFE

I don't know how to make it work for apps, and i'm running Debian Lenny.

Good Luck

Hy
when i test the speakers whit: speaker-test -Dplug:surround51 -c6

it work only 4channel:

Front Left
Center
Front Right
LFE

this work but not whit some problem: when test make for Center, the Bass work and when the Bass is testing the Center work, same problem whit the front and rear speaker.the connection betwean PC,5.1system and speaker is correct(under windows is work fine).

when i use xmms 4channel work:
Front Left
Front Right
Rear Right
Rear Left

the Center and LFE dont work?why is this diference between test and playing whit xmms?

I have use the latest driver from realtek but nothing....i think that is my mistake...dont know but it maybe i`ve forgot something to set.
