Unhappy SiS 630 and OpenGL

I recently installed Debian 3 on my computer and went to set up an OpenGL screensaver in KDE. I have a SiS 630 integrated graphics chip and Debian was running kernel 2.2.20-idepci (that came with it) and it worked fine. I upgraded my kernel using a .deb package on my Debian DVD to 2.4.18 and now the same OpenGL screensaver has multicolored vertical lines in "front" of the screensaver and it flickers badly. This only seems to affect certain OpenGL applications and not others. Does this have anything to do with the way the Debian kernel was configured or has SiS-related code changed from 2.2 to 2.4? In short, is there anything anyone knows about that I can do to fix this? Thanks in advance for any help or advice anyone can offer.
