Should I "Replace code in MBR?"

I currently get L 99 99 99 99 repeatedly when I boot off my hard drive. I've looked around for other who have had this issue and haven't found a definate answer. Most say to do fixboot or fixmbr in a windows xp recovery cd. However I'm not using any Windows OS and was curious if I need to re-write the mbr to get LILO to boot. What do you guys recommend? I'm running SuSE 9.1 and trying to re-install the boot loader. Should I try the command "Replace code in MBR" during the SuSE 9.1 repair process?

thanks

Well it won't make it any worse...http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Bootdisk-HOWTO/a1483.html ignoring the numbers, you get as far as "LI", so a geometry mismatch looks likely
