serial port under Mandrake 10.0 + Wine

I am running Mandrake 10.0 official and Cross-over office 3.0. Wine config file has Com1= /dev/ttyS0

security settings show /dev owned by root with group=root

I have tried a couple of applications that need the serial port and I cannot get it to work (not even sure if the apps work ok on wine, they are not on the database at codeweavers)

does anyone know a (freeware/shareware) windows app that runs under wine that can access the serial port . If I run this I can check if the port is being written to.
or even better does anyone know what I need to do to get serial to work on Mandrake10 +wine

thanks in advance

Andy
