scsi emualtion BEFORE kernel boots

i'm trying to install linux.

I need scsi emualtion to occur before the installation program starts because im using an ATAPI IDE cd burner.

i hvae suse linux 8.1.

BTW.

at the bottom of the suse/grub boot loader (which lets me choose between installin linux and booting the installed OS) there is a space for me to type in commands or command like things.

Thx ahead of time

ps - I am familiar with linux. This isn't my first time ever installing/using it.
