Scanner device gone

What causes a scanner device suddenly not found?

All of sudden with no changes, no scanner is found.

Xandros 3.0.2

Kernel 2.6.12

Did you restart the system with the scanner turned off or disconnected? The HP SCSI interface scanner I have isn't recognized if I restart the system with it turned off or disconnected.

If the scanner uses parallel, serial, or SCSI, you will need to first turn on the scanner before turning on the computer.
