If you are using the Sound Blaster Pro / 16, uncomment it in your /etc/rc.d/rc.modules file.

Is the volume turned up? use a mixer program to check.

Is this an old ISA card or a PCI soundcard? What module are you using specifically? Should have the sound module loaded I do believe.

# lsmod

Have you changed the permissions for all users to have functionality of the sound?

# chmod 666 /dev/dsp* /dev/mixer*

Have you checked your volumes? Might just have the mic turned up but none of the others, or they could be muted.

Let us know!

try turning the volume on the mic all the way down and setting it to be your recording device.
