SATA on Linux


I just purchased a brand neww Western Digital 200 GB SATA Drive and I want to installl Gentoo on it but unfortunately i dont know where to look in the dev folder to find the drive ive looked on the net but the devices they point me to dont exist. my system is:

MOBO: K8V-X
CPU: AMD64 3000
Drive: WD2000JD
Motherboard RAID Chipset: VT8237

PS the SATA RAID chipset is onboard no external card

In all the newer kernels, sata drives are designated as scsi drives. If you only have one drive it will probably be /dev/sda.

I tried cfdisk /dev/sda and it responded by saying the disk wasnt there or something so if you can give me an idea of how to enable sata that would be nice
