SATA HD not found

I'm trying to install Linux on a desktop machine.
I tried Ubuntu 6.10 and Fedora 7
but none of them could detect my SATA harddrive.

It is a Medion PC
HD is a Seagate Barracuda ST3320820AS
Motherboard: VIA P4M890

Searching the web I found out that since kernel
2.6.19 libata is included and Fedora 7 is 2.6.20
The libata web page says that they support VIA
but I couldn't find any details about that.

I would appreciate any help!

This is a kernel issue. I too faced a difficult time installing RHEL4 with the same disk as yours. Doing an expert install with manual driver loading (AHAxx something) also didn't helped. I reverted and installed centOS 4.4 which detected the disk just fine.
