SATA drive /AHCI issue

Hi,
I am kind of newbie to Linux. I am running Linux Mint 10. I am having problems burning to DVD. Hence started looking around logs. I noticed my lspci,

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 82G33/G31/P35/P31 Express DRAM Controller (rev 10)
00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82G33/G31/P35/P31 Express PCI Express Root Port (rev 10)
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82G33/G31 Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 10)
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 01)
00:1d.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family USB UHCI Controller #1 (rev 01)
00:1d.1 USB Controller: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family USB UHCI Controller #2 (rev 01)
00:1d.2 USB Controller: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family USB UHCI Controller #3 (rev 01)
00:1d.3 USB Controller: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family USB UHCI Controller #4 (rev 01)
00:1d.7 USB Controller: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family USB2 EHCI Controller (rev 01)
00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801 PCI Bridge (rev e1)
00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation 82801GB/GR (ICH7 Family) LPC Interface Bridge (rev 01)
00:1f.1 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) IDE Controller (rev 01)
00:1f.2 IDE interface: Intel Corporation N10/ICH7 Family SATA IDE Controller (rev 01)

00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family SMBus Controller (rev 01)
02:06.0 Ethernet controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT6105/VT6106S [Rhine-III] (rev 8b)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My motherboard is DG31PR. I have one SATA hard drive and one IDE DVD-RW. My SATA drive is listed as IDE Interface and AHCI is missing. I checked my BIOS and it's latest and Native Mode for AHCI is enabled. Then why AHCI is not enabled and SATA is used as IDE ??

Thanks,
Pandey

The first one might be the IDE controller (40 pin). The second I think is the SATA controller.
Try and change it to IDE in BIOS and see if lspci outputs something different. (if your system won't boot with the SATA controller in IDE mode, boot from the installation disc or a LiveCD to compare what lspci reports)

Make sure AHCI is compiled into the kernel. Run:

Code:
zcat /proc/config.gz | grep AHCI
it should say 'CONFIG_SATA_AHCI=y'. If it does and AHCI is enabled in BIOS for that SATA controller, then it should work.

I think that relates to your IDE port, this card has. One IDE port for two devices ...

lspci does not say about the type of your SATA controller

example, should have a line like:

00:11.0 SATA controller: ATI Technologies Inc SB700/SB800 SATA Controller [AHCI mode]

The command is informed by H_TeXMeX_H , it's cool!! :-)
