RHEL 3 - bootup error, not mounting /proc
I have a dell poweredge 2550 with RHEL 3
It starts it's bootup and then says:
/proc/cpuinfo no such file or directory
after that it scans for new hardware and says it has detected new devices and goes into Kudzu.
In Kudzu it says that it has detected the 2 nic's in the box and the raid controller.
(this box has been up for months and the hardware has been confirmed working)
after detecting the new hardware it goes back into booting up and i can see a lot of fails but it goes by too quick for me too write them down.
finally it will allow me to login, but it is in a read-only state.
I can manually mount /proc by mount /proc , once there i can cat the contents of cpuinfo and it appears to be correct.
Any ideas on what is going on. I also haven't been able to find a log that helps since /var and /boot are not mounting during bootup. (i also confirmed the nic's are working by doing ifup's and making sure they get ip's) I checked the box and there are no amber lights and everything appears to be working.
Any suggestions? I am relatively new to linux so any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
