RedHat 8.0 Sound Problems

No sound ... its killing me. I have 2 soundcards in my comp at the minute, one on board (via technologies Model: VT8233 AC97 Audio Controller (modual: via82cxxx_audio)), and one pci (ESS technology: Model: ES1969 Solo-1 Audio Drive (modual: esssolo1))
Both are recognised, and neither work. I am an absolute newbie at redhat, came from mandrake, but cannot get anything to work. Anyhelp is greatly appreciated. (sorry i couldnt be any more helpful on that stuff up there, thats just what ive found).

when you used the firsttime wizard(first time booting Redhat), and it said "play test sound" did you hear it then?

there is a tool on the cds called sndconfig (i think that is the package name) that tries to setup sound using audiology

If the test sound plays correctly then your sound is working. You still need to go into the Sound preferences settings and enable system sounds.

Hello, ... newbie here ( both forum and Linux )

I've just recently installed RedHat 9 and it turned out the soundcard ( ES1969 solo-1 ) doesn't work,

It is detected, though there's no sound when it play the "test-sound". AnyOne can suggest me how to overcome this ?

When I used RH 8, it works partially ( sometimes works and sometimes not ), so I assume it shall work on RH 9

If I have to edit /etc/module.conf .. I need help.

Thanks
