Recompiling kernel for P3 Xeon

Dear folks,

I am trying to recompile my 2.4.26 kernel using a P3 Xeon 550mhz and can't find the right option in the menu thingy. Is it critical to use the exact match for your cpu? If not what shall I choose? I haven't been using linux for a very long time so please use some plain english =)
