Really poor performance with compiz and my nvidia card

I am using the newest drivers (186.16) and I installed them along with all of compiz but I didn't do an update before hand. Everything was working really well and running smooth. Then I installed all the updates (it was a fresh install). After the new kernel was installed, my nvidia drivers didn't work anymore so I had to do reinstall them. now I am having all kinds of performance issues with my GTX260 (It is way better than a 9800GX2 or 9800GTX). During the sphere I am getting maybe 5FPS....

I did glxgears and I am getting well over 25000 FPS and I am getting the correct reponse for the card's identity.... What could be going on?

Can anyone help me.

It's the old auto-update issue. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

I. e. if you are using a desktop system (i. e. security and network "hardness" isn't such an issue), and everything is working as you want it to, DO NOT DO THE UPDATES.

All that usually happens is that something that was working fine, or working to your satisfaction, breaks. I've seen this more than once.

The compelling reason to update usually is to get security fixes, but if you're just using your PC for desktop stuff, and it already worked out of the box - why update?

I always update. I am thinking of reinstalling, updating the system then installing my drivers.
