This problem is also present in my laptop which shares a different but similar audio chip:
programs like Dosbox and "beneath a steel sky" play audio perfectly fine for a time but then suddenly the sound goes heavily static like with garbbled sound effects. This will happen for a period of 10-20min then it will clear up and go away as if nothing had ever happened.
