Ralink MT7601U WiFi Adapter works in RHEL 6, not in CentOS 7

I bought a Tenda W311MI WiFi Adapter that uses the Ralink chipset. I downloaded the driver, compiled it and installed normally with no hiccups during the make. The issue arises in the ifconfig and the Desktop behavior. The ifconfig identifies it as an ethernet device and the Desktop categorizes it as "PCI Ethernet" and not as "Wireless" in CentOS 7. The 'lsusb' command reflects recognition of the device and lsmod reflects the loading of the driver. Switching over to RHEL 6.7 I did a 'make', ran 'make install', rebooting and once re-logged in device came up and am currently using it. I would prefer to have the CentOS 7 working. The best link to reference this problem is here:

No solution has worked. Can anyone please help me on this?

the change from rhel6 to 7 was a VERY MAJOR change
for one thing systemV is not used in 7

also network names changed

so do not expect everything to be the same in 7

in 7 are you using "network" ?? or "Network manager" ?
there is a very big difference in the two

for wi-fi you will need to use the "network manager" installed in the Desktop Environment
-- Gnome3 by default
