Post Quick Easy Basic Question

I've Only got three IDE Cables. One for a Hard drive, one for a CD-ROM drive, and one for a Floppy drive. I need to install a second Hard drive in order to install Linux. This is only temporary, so would I be able to disconnect the CD-ROM drive, and attach the cables to a second Hard drive without any issues?

I would then use a Hard-drive installation without the CD-ROM drive.

yes. you'd need to manuall mount it and specify the fs type and such

but...

a) floppy drives do not use IDE cables. you only have 2 ide cables.

b) what' wrong with just adding it as a slave to your primary master drive? lot easier...

I was going to ask if your cables are the standard type with 3 connectors; 1 connector for the motherboard, and 2 connectors for 2 drives.

Or are they proprietary cables like for Compaq, or Packard bell where they only have a connector for one drive.

I think acid_kwepie is right. Why don't you just add the hard disk as a slave to the same cable. You can attach 2 ide comaptible devices to each ide cable.
