Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Question Question about modelines

Hi all, I have set the screen with xvidtune but it should be done more accurately.
I would try to put the value in xorg.conf modeline by myself, increasing the value one point by one point. The question is: this little action could damage the screen, more than an 4 by 4 poins step like xvidtune do?
If I'm not clear ask me for explanation, I'm very poor in English...

The only thing that I can think of is that the screen gets distorted if you do it incorrectly.

If xvidtune sets a value to 1312 and to 1316 when you change something, you can safely use any value in between.

However, the exercise might be useless as a number of video cards ignore one or more of the least significant bits (so basically divide the value by a power of 2 (2, 4, 8)).

That's probably why xvidtune does not bother and only uses steps of 4.
