Problems with installing SoundMax Soundcard in VMware
Hallo. I'm a newbie in Linux.
I have installed VMware Workstation 3.0 on a Windows xp host. The guest operating systems are Suse Linux 8.0 And Mandrake 9.0.
In both configurations the sound don't works.
I have a Siemens Fujitsu Scenic L Pentium III 866 Mhrz
Mod. i815e PS
The driver recognized under Windows xp is "SoundMax integrated Digital Audio".
I executed the command lspci and this is the output:
pbws5110lx:~ # lspci

Ok VMWare is like a virtual machine, the hardware you really have doesn't really matter to a OS inside VMWare. VMWare uses a fake hardware sound card based on a SoundBlaster Ensoniq Audio PCI.
I have tryed yet all SoundBlaster end Ensoniq cards with the settings of vmware:
io port -- 0x220
irq -- 5
8-bit DMA -- 1
16-bit DMA --7
it cames everytime the error in the xconsole:
kernel: Ensoniq AudoPCI soundcard not found or device busy
modprobe: Can't locate module snd-card-0
last message repeated 3 times
