Problem with creative zen jukebox (mp3 player) on Debian
Basically, I am trying to get my Creative Zen touch MP3 jukebox running under Debian (sarge) with a 2.6 kernel. I did a little research and discovered I needed libnjb and a program called gnomad. So i do apt-cache search gnomad. I find that there is libnjb0 and libnjb1. I don't know the difference so I get them both. I also install gnomad2. I fire it up, and I get this message: Error(Gnomad2) Can't Open Jukebox. I check that its plugged in correctly. I run the lsusb command and i get this output: Bus 003 Device 002: ID 041e:411b Creative Technology, Ltd Nomad Jukebox Zen Touch MP3 player (Infact, I got this output before I even plugged anything in). Any help would be much apreciate.
i have the zenmicro, and since it REQUIRES WindowsXP it means that it uses MTP, and according the the developer of libnjb in an email, any of the players that support only windowsxp require MTP.
So if yours supports Win98 or 2000 as well, you may be in luck. Let me know that and I'll point you in the right direction.
I went to the creative website to see what versions of windows it says it supports and it says Microsoft Windows XP x64, Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Millennium Edition or Windows 98 Second Edition. I am assuming since it supports either 2k or 98 S.E. there shouldn't be a problem in linux once i install the libnjb and the gnomad2 right?
ok, when i'm trying to configure the libnjb thing, it says "configure: error: I can't find the libusb libraries on your system. You
may need to set the LDFLAGS environment variable to include the
search path where you have libusb installed before running
configure (e.g. setenv LDFLAGS=-L/usr/local/lib)
" and then i try to do the setenv and it says the setenv isn't a valid command.
Oh, by the way, i'm trying to install this on FC 4
Ok, I should have posted this when I found the answer by accident, but I forgot about this thread.
Anyway, I ran gnomad2 as root and it detected my mp3 player straight away. There are obvious security disadvantages running this as root, but at least it works.
I believe that when trying to get my zen touch to work, on the gnomad2 developers site it said that it would work with many creative mp3 players, so have a look, try it, see if it works.
OK, does fc4 have any of these as binaries? I couldn't get it to work from source before on mandrake due to horrible dependancies. In debian I installed straight away because they have binaries for libnjb and gnomad2, so se if fc has some first, it will be much easier.
http://search.rpmseek.com/ have a look there, see if thats any good (I don't use an rpm based system, so this might be a crap site). Search for gnomad2 and libnjb (I think on debian it's called libnjb0, so you might want to try that too). Otherwise try google for something like gnomad2+rpm
Ok, so I've got the same problem with my zen sleek. I can lsusb it and find Creative technologies ltd. device on my usb port, but gnomad2 complains that there aren't any jukeboxes on the bus. Any ideas on how to downgrade the firmware? Who cares about "PlaysForSure" anyway? It's just a way to make sure that Macrosoft keeps it's monopoly as far as I know. This thing has me a wee bit ticked of at good old Macrosoft.
