Printers

Is there somebody out there who knows what a Post Script Printer is, and why Linux prefers such? Should I really replace my trusty old Epson 600, which works under Star Office with the generic driver?

Thanks for any advice,
Peter

a post script printer is a printer that... accepts post script format jobs. makes it easier to interface with a whole load of printers if they are all designed to accept an identical input. the drivers written for non-ps printers thus have to take the post script input from the system and convert it in software to the method that each printer uses. it's just a standard really.
