Question Printer knocks scanner off line and vice versa

Hi I have posted this on another couple of forums but no answers yet I hope someone out there can point me in the right direction. Distro is Suse 8.2 pro printer scanner is HP PSC 1210 a usb printer. I have installed HPIJS 1.5. libusb. and HPOJ 0.91 which is what the printer requires to work. I had no problems installing, I did it in stages getting the printer to work first (HPIJS) which after config with the suse control centre it worked fine. I then installed libusb and HPOJ and the scanner worked after running ptal-init setup as per instructions. Then I found the printer wouldn't work, it would queue the print jobs but not print. so far I have found that after booting whichever I use first printer or scannner stops the other from working. can anyone shed any light on this for me pse.
