Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Printer hpijs prints test page

I have HP PCS1310 all-in-one hplip driver. Every time I turn on the printer it prints a test page, wasting my ink. I think I might have made a setting via the CUPS page for settings but can't find where it is. Maybe it was somewhere else. How can I undo this?

That's usually a hardware option. Check your printer manual. (Sometimes just holding down the "on" button too long (a couple of seconds) will cause the "test" page to be printed.)

Also, check the "queue" of "buffer" settings in CUPS. You may need to set something telling CUPS to remove the page from the queue when it's printed. (I don't, actually, know of any such setting, so that last is pure speculation.)

Yeah! I can't find anything in CUPS, so it probably is a hardware issue with HP, but I can't find any such setting in the manual. I'm trying to contact HP at this time. Just an annoying little bug that I'll have to deal with for awhile, I guess.

FYI- It was a hardware problem and not Linux or CUPS. Anyway, after reinstalling the ink cartridges I had failed to realign the print cartridge. The sheet that was printed each time I turned on the printer was the alignment sheet to scan and align the cartridge. That was giving me a signal that I failed to align the cartridge. HP is pretty smart. Smarter than me!
