Print driver issue?

I have a HP photosmart 2575 that I'm using with Ubuntu 15.04 but every time I try to print anything on it it prints so many of the following entries to kern.log that it will go to 1.2GB.

Jul 21 21:37:44 markr-MS-7798 kernel: [ 8475.332503] usb 1-1: usbfs: process 26585 (hp) did not claim interface 1 before use

at the same time the syslog will also be spammed with the same entries and swell to 1.4 GB leaving so little space on / that the print stops part way through and I can't do anything with the system. The only option seems to be to reboot and delete the logs. If I try to run a command from the terminal I won't even be able to do that as it gives an error about not having enough space to create a temporary file!

The printer is fully supported by the latest hplip driver package. If you want to check for the latest, this link -->http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web...ces/index.html will allow you to download the latest. I would be surprised if you do not already have the latest.

You can have a look at this link. Apparently some cups versions have had problems like the one you describe. Have a look here -->http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web...ces/index.html You can try blacklisting usblp, that might help.

You could move the /var/log/ to another storage device with more room to work around your current issue.

Maybe the hplip driver is missing components, or the issue is fixed in later versions. I used to need pnm2ppa for an HP printer I had once. Without it, it pretended to print, but never actually printed. It's still not an official dependency of hplip afaik. But I think cups does mention it on the :631 admin pages. Probably not your issue.
