pinnacle tv tuner card not installed under ubuntu 11.10

Ubuntu 11.10 doesn't seem to recognize my pinnacle tv-tuner. Is this a temporary bug?

It is not a bug. Probably just no drivers has been written for Linux, yet. To be sure run command "dmesg" and paste it output here. This may be temporary problem if this card is new and popular, but also it can never will be working if no one with knowledge will write driver to it. On linuxtv.org you can search your card and check if it is supported and read information what to do if it isn't.

Thanks for the quick reply, I'll have a look. Not very good at this. Is there some way that I can try to configure my caard in a terminal?

First you need to provide output of "dmesg" command.
