PDA that operates well under linux

Hi people,

I am checking a few PDA's here and so far I like the Palm TX a lot. I like it because it has built in wifi, bluetooth, a big screen and mp3 player. The major problem I see on it is that I couldnt replace its battery if I ever want to. MAny reviews state that this PDA is really good and I think it costs a fair price.

But I want this gadget to operate with my linux network at home. I was wondering if anyone has one of these and if they integrate well with software like thunderbird and openoffice. Or is it a "only windows" integration that it affords?

If anyone feels that this is not a good device and that there is any other that is better than this one please advise me. I havent made up my mind yet and this is why I created this thread.

It would be really cool if I could have a handheld that had wifi and that I could install linux in it.

All suggestions are extremely welcome. Thanks for reading.

take a look in the hcl under synching devices. This will tell you what experiences other people have had. I looked for you palm TX and didnt find it but there are many reviews for other models. I think it would be good to read some of them even if your model isnt there.

You are right tamoneya, I should have read that before but as usual what you are looking for isnt there I read reviews on other sites (non linux related) about the device and it seems to work pretty well. I was just wondering if any other linux user had it so I could get some info before I decide about purchasing it or not. Thanks!

Bulliver, the Treo is a smartphone. And I am not sure if that is what I am looking for. I want something that I can use over wifi so I can use it to fetch directions or general information when I am on the road for free using public hotspots. But thanks for the suggestion!

I need to know what is the kind of memory it uses. I couldnt figure it from the specs correctly and I didnt find any store selling it close by my home so I couldnt see the real thing. If it works w/ some kind of obscure palm made memory I wont get it.

i will assume you are talking about what type of memory the palm tx takes. I googled it and found a site that had additional stuff you could buy for it. It offers more memory and the memory is made by palm so it might not be what you are looking for.
