I have never used any RAID arrays before, but I have aquired a controller and two 40GB hard drives. I figured I would stick them into a system that I've never really used to much. My question is this:

How would you partition and what would be the mount points you recommend?

There are the following hard drives

(2) 40GB 7200 RPM in raid 0 (I have no need for a mirror )
a single 30GB hard drive that was already in the machine.


I suspect that I would mount / and /boot on the 30 in case the raid ever failed, but that is why I am asking.

I'd put /home, /usr, and /tmp on the raid myself. /usr, about 30% too 40% maybe less, depends on how much software you want ( Its where nearly all the software resides ). /tmp quite small, mines only has 66Kb at the moment, can increase upto a few megs when intensive. the rest for /home.

The 30Gb will hold the rest of your system easily, with plently of space leftover.
