Talking Overclocking does it kill?


Yes another hardware newbie question, does overclocking your processor (that has nice cooling) constantly have an effect on it's lifetime?

The answer... it could.

The speed a processor is sold at is the speed that the tested members of that particular batch were able to sustain with rock hard stability. What this means, is every processor from that batch can be guarenteed (or at least as close to a guarentee as you'll ever get) to run at this speed.

That being said, many processor sold at a particular speed are quite capable at running at higher clocks.... so the answer stands as maybe

If you look at the spec. sheet for the part and your not running anywhere near the max. temp you are probably fine.
