if you're using xorg for X then look in /etc/X11/xorg.conf for a line that says --
Option "IgnoreDisplayDevices" "TV"
put a # in front of it to comment it out save the file and restart X If it worked great, if not there is a lot of info in the nvidia docs and I think if you search for it a howto on this site
Just boot up normally then press Ctrl-Alt-F1. This should put you in text mode. Login as root then enter the command telinit 3. It should run for a few seconds and give a prompt again(if it seems to stop with no prompt just hit enter and you should get one). Now that your xserver is shutdown do your install of the nvidia drivers. Once it is finished make sure your /etc/X11/xorg.conf (or the XF86Config-4 if I remember the filename right) has nvidia listed as the driver instead of nv. You also want to make sure that these lines are like shown below --
# Load "GLcore"
# Load "dri"
Load "glx"
save the file then enter the command telinit 5. If all went well you will probably see an nvidia logo then your login screen. If it doesn't work the Ctrl-Alt-F1 again edit the xorg.conf file again changing nvidia back to nv. Then restart your xserver and look up the very good Nvidia install howto that is on this site.
i was going nuts a couple of weeks ago trying to set this up; dual head this, dual head that, nothing worked. finally, i grabbed tv-out for nvidia off sourceforge.net, and it worked almost like a charm from the get go:
