Optimal HD configuration on IDE

Greetings all,

Anyone given some thought on what is the optimal configuration for installing 2 hard drives on IDE? My system has

/dev/hda: 10GB HD filled with windows
/dev/hdc: 80GB HD partitioned mainly w/space for RH7.3 but also space for more dos files.

I find that reading and writing from one disk to the other is slow in this configuration and playing music files located on hdc through windows is unbearable.

What's the configuration that will allow these drives to carry on the fastest rate of communication?

Thanks,

Me.
