One more mouse post???

I maybe the only one here desiring such a feature, but how do I "Disable" the side buttons on a 5 button wheel mouse (7 buttons in XFree lingo)

Drives me nuts when I accidently click those side buttons when i don't want to

Edit: Please note the side buttons function same as middle and right

thanks in advance

Maybe using a different mouse protocol would work.
Set the protocol to something like "ImPS2" or just "PS2" in /etc/XF86Config-4. Back up your old one first, though.
Then restart X and see if it works.
My problem is that I have a 5-button mouse but can't get the other two buttons to work. What's your protocol set to currently?

Oh I got it to work by accident, thanks, I set my protocol to ExplorerPS/2, Buttons "7", ZAxisMapping "4 5" and then tried a few combos of xmodmap -e (can't remember which actually worked)- funny thing is I didn't save xmodmap anywhere, but the changes seem to stick

My original settings were protocol "Auto". Buttons and ZAxis were commented out.

I wasn't actually getting "true" 5 button behaviour. The side buttons were the same as 2 and 3
