Old Toshiba Chromebook
I bought a Toshiba Chromebook (pre used) just to see what they were like, didn't like ChromeOS, & subsequently installed my regular Linux onto it, but never had any sound output.
Well, I put the Raspberry Desktop for PC version of Debian onto it the other day, it's mainly a 32bit system, but has a 64bit kernel, etc.
Anyway, the gist is, I now have sound via HDMI, or bluetooth.
Distribution: Ubuntu based stuff for the most part

I noticed a similar issue on my Chromebook. I first installed Kubuntu and only had sound over HDMI, did not try bluetooth. Latter I had an issue forcing a reinstall, but this time I used GalliumOS. I then had sound over the speakers, but not HDMI last time I tried.
My out of date dual core intel, 4 gig of ram, 16 gig ssd hardrive, Samsung ChromeBox 3. I received by offering 40 bucks to the ebay
Used electronic seller .
Hafta take it apart to hack the bios yet. All I have done is make sure everything worked after I got it. So it is on some expired ChromeOS version that rides with that desktop.
Posting this from my touch screen chrome book with fold back screen. My wife spoils me.
More than likely, That Chromebox will be a current antiX 21 chromebox with a cheapo usb multiplier < adds 3 usb 3 style of ports.
Then one of those cheapo small form 1TB external drives that I will divide up and call /home and /swap. Rest of external can be storage and formatted as even as fat if I wish . Do the proper installer steps to have the live run, and installer. See all what I did and write drives that need auto mount and which require admin permissions.
On my old Acer C710. Had a issue the tap pad back when I installed antiX on it. Evewrything else worked good out of the box except for touch pad. I did some editing like so
Got things figured. Since antiX is based on debian. That fact helps improves my search results when I face a problem.
Sure is a lot easier thinking like that.
Just posting this because thisd chromebox I bought was used supposedly, to build and test appications and that is all.
Seemed cheaper than building a arm box to me also. It came with power cord and all bells and whistles making noise.
