Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Old SCSI disk to USB adapters?

So I want to dig up some old data on some SCSI drives, like Seagate ST31200N and such. If I really need to do so I can scrape up enough old hardware to boot up an ancient SCSI based box and hook it up to my network.

What I am hoping for, though, is an easier solution. Are there any SCSI docking station type adapters that I can plug into a modern USB port, stick an old SCSI drive in the slot and be able to read the hard drive? I imagine it would take more than just an adapter cable to get old data available on a current Fedora system.

I have a IDE/SCSI USB adapter. Just plug in, turn on and mount drives.

They have been hard to find and expensive for about 10 years. You'd think some company would have the chips and board just ready to use.

Best to find a pci board from some server supply I'd think. I've seen some used scsi boards (not pci-x) for about $17.

Of course you'd need cable and maybe termination.
