Rep:
Nvidia Screen hz, cannot change
I am using a LG M2294D 22" @ 1680x1050.
I am trying to change the hz and Khz of the monitor.
# Frequency Page Horizontal: 30 - 83 kHz
# Vertical: 56 - 75 Hz
That is what they are supposed to be set at, but in the nvidia settings I can only choose 60hz or auto. Will auto choose the settings from xorg.conf and SaX2? I have already set the correct values there.
Here is my xorg.conf file, please tell me if there's something wrong with it and how I can set the hz for nvidia, thanks!

you could always create a modeline with the specific settings you wish to use.
http://xtiming.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/xtiming.pl
Quote:
XFree86 Modeline
Put the following modeline in your XF86Config in the Monitors section, and add it to your active modes in the Screen section.
Use this modeline at your own risk.
Code:
Modeline "1680x1050@75" 210.42 1680 1712 2504 2536 1050 1070 1083 1103
Horizontal sync frequency: 82.97 kHz
16x10 aspect ratio..
Are you sure it will do it's highest resolution at 75Hz refresh ?

That's the actual monitor, isn't it supposed to run at 75hz?

I don't know.. I see 1680x1050 and 75Hz in the specs, but I don't see it all listed on the same line anywhere and the manual is unavailable online.. So for all i know 75Hz might only be available for lower resolutions.. It's a guessing game

There is a lot of excess stuff in that xorg.conf file. Did you edit to cause that (or did automated configuration in OpenSUSE do most of that or what)?
I think the key selection items are:
In
Code:
Section "ServerLayout"
Code:
Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0
In
Code:
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
In
Code:
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor0"
Code:
HorizSync 83.0 - 83.0
VertRefresh 75.0 - 75.0
Do you think it is a good idea to try to force those to exact values rather than ranges?

If you've made the changes the Horiz and Veritical should look like:
HorizSync 30.0 - 83.0
VertRefresh 56.0 - 75.0
The ranges are min and max. 82.97 does not equal 83, but falls in the range of 30 - 83.

This is my new xorg.conf. I haven't cleaned it up yet, but I will when I've got it working...-ish.
It's still running at 59.88hz when I check the NVIDIA X Settings, are my xorg.conf settings setup correctly for 75hz use or will that just not work at this resoltion?
Thanks.

if you look at the Xorg.0.log many times you can see all the supported modes of the monitor listed if the system was able to detect them when it probed the monitor.
my earlier guess may be correct, that you can only hit the max res of your monitor @ 60Hz..

Indeed 60hz was max. Every time I fiddle around with things, I learn new stuff which is good.
Thanks!

You should probably remove that modeline in that case, just to keep things neat and clean, since it will not work with your monitor..
Glad you were able to get everything sorted out to your satisfaction.
