No USB 2.0 after using an USB 1.1 device

I have noticed that my USB does not always work reliably. Now have I discovered, that after using the scanner it is not possible to print anything or to use an USB stick. Googling gave me the hint to try a "modprobe -r ehci-hcd" which gave me back the printing function. But copying something on an USB stick runs annoying slow after that.

My assumption now is that in some way the scanner which only runs with USB 1.1 turns off USB 2.0. In the syslog I can find "usb 3-5: device descriptor read/64, error -110" then.

USB 2.0 connectivity returns only after a complete shutdown of the system. A "modprobe ehci-hcd" or a reboot alone does not suffice.

My Linux is Kubuntu 8.04.

Thanks in advance for any hints.

post relevant part of
#lshw

Also check or post relevant part of system logs/ dmesg

Why don't you unload the module first before modprobe...?

Is this the "relevant part"? Let me know if anything is missing.

Maybe the explanation of modprobing ehci-hcd was a little misunderstood. Before I did the "modprobe ehci-hcd" I did a "modprobe r ehci-hcd".
