Just curious to how you are testing sound output.
If you are just trying to load mp3 files, you may need a codec, because i think suse 11 by default does not allow mp3 playback.

Hi Kilahchris, Good thought. First time I tried a normal cd as well as a dvd it didnt play them at all. Then I have been trying an mp3 cd and an internet radio. After your suggestion tried a cd it did not work. Thank you anyway. If you have any more tips please give, I am trying everything. Took me a few try's to get the printer sorted.

Cheers

Each time I used alsaconf it reverts to normal when I switch off the pc. BUt when I used the Yast to configure nothing seems to have happened but it it said Sound configured. Only after checking the volume through the Yast configuration it changed. Hope I have explained it properly.

Cheers,

Not being aware that you changed anything in
alsamixer, I didn't tell you how to save the
changes. The command is, in a terminal :

'su' , # 'alsactl store'

resurecting RE 'lspci shows no Audio component'

Hi all, I am having a similar problem on the same motherboard, only I can't see it in 'lspci.'

I did this to myself I know, when I pulled out Debian's kernel and stuck one in for VMware Server 2 Demo, I managed to lose sight of my Audio component in lspci.

Anyway, I know a clean install would fix this right up, along with a ton of other problems that have
arisen in this box's life as a crash-test dummy. I am just curious to see how to troubleshoot the problem from here.

This is definately a kernel thing, thats where I'm lookin now.

While I reboot to see if I got it right this time, can anyone offer any advice?

Thanks!

Hi,

When I click the link it is giving a 404 error. Is your problem sorted now?

Cheers

Sorry for the slow reply, as well as the broken link.

Actually, it is not. I am pretty confused, because on default installation(lenny), Alsa loaded
everything up no questions asked. Still, having upgraded to a kernel on default debian configuration, still no sight of an Audio controller in lspci.

Hi,

I am not familiar with debian. I am having problems with the sound too.

Have you tried 'alsaconf', if not try 'alsaconf' on the terminal and say yes to all the options. See if it works.

Cheers,
