No sound after updating...

Hi, im using Slackware 9.1, and i've updated my system's packages using swaret after i didn't used the system a lot of time.
now my sound isn't working; when i login with KDE, it show me this:

Sound server informational message:
Error while initializing the sound driver:
device /dev/dsp can't be opened (No such device)
The sound server will continue, using the null output device.

In KDE Control Center, in Sound & Multimedia > Sound system > Hardware
it's on Autodetect, and i tried to change it to OSS, to ALSA, and to all other options, and it still doesn't work.
and BTW, when i installed my slackware system, the sound was working by the default, no problems till now.

umm... what can i do ?
10x.

If you use alsa and you did an upgrade to kernel 2.4.24 you need the new alsa driver too.

------- ChangeLog ------------
alsa-driver-1.0.0rc2-i486-2.tgz: Recompiled against Linux 2.4.24.
--------------------------------
Try to upgrade the alsa driver.

I didn't upgraded my kernel, I upgraded all my packages except the kernel.
i have the following alsa packages:
alsa-driver-1.0.2c
alsa-lib-1.0.2
alsa-oss-1.0.2
alsa-utils-1.0.2

as a matter of fact, i don't even know if i used alsa before, i just installed my slackware 9.1 and it worked by itself, so i didn't bothered about that.
anyway, if i try to change to ALSA in the
KDE Control Center -> Sound & Multimedia -> Sound system -> Hardware
it writes:

Sound server informational message:
Error while initializing the sound driver:
device: default can't be opened or playback (no such device)
The sound server will continue, using the null output device.

if i try to change to OSS, it writes:

Sound server informational message:
Error while initializing the sound driver:
device /dev/dsp can't be opened (No such device)
The sound server will continue, using the null output device.

i don't have a clew on what to do.
please help me...

I did the same thing with the same results. ALSA worked before I did the 'swaret --update -a'. After the update I was getting the same error you are getting.

I decided that since I was only 2 days into the Slack install, I would just let swaret update the kernel. This actually fixed ALSA (kinda). I am still having a problem getting the sound to KEEP the ALSA configuration. After I reboot my system I get a high pitched sound thru the speakers until I go back into ALSA and set the options again. (I do the 'alsactl store' thing).

Good Luck....
