No Mouse After Log Off

Ok. I posted this in the noob forum but nobody helped . anyways, im running mandrake 9 and when i boot it it works fine, but if i log off, the mouse basically dies and is no longer usable. the cursor remains in the middle of the screen but is uncontrollable unless i restart the computer in which it works until i log off again... im using a microsoft wheel mouse optical usb and i believe i configured it to use a wheel usb mouse. thanks!

This is Linux mate, no need to reboot :)

If X is acting up just try Ctrl-Alt-Backspace

Cheers,
