Question Need your imput on a new video card...

I was helping a friend install Linux on his PC, and he's wanting to replace his video card. He's NOT a gamer, but wants one thats nice and will give him not problems.

Hes got a AMD 3000+ and was thinking about a ATI 8500 card. Any opinions or recomendations? Thank you.

Don't get a Dual DVI video card. Theres not too many avalable but from personal experience they are not supported under X natively and so you have to install the drivers first. This isn't so much of a problem for distros such as Slackware but for live CD distros its a real problem.

I think the ATI graphic cards are much better supported nowdays for Linux so a good little card to look for is a Radeon 9200. those sell for about $100 AUS.

Good luck.

Thank you for your help. I'll check out the Radeon 9200. I've only installed Debian linux (about 8-9 times on different PC's) so I'd rather not have to deal with installing drivers first, or anything like that. Anyway, again thank you.
