My NVIDIA card does not work

I've compiled the drivers for my NVIDIA GeForce4 MX440 but there's that little problem: no screens found

take a look:

This is a pre-release version of XFree86, and is not supported in any
way. Bugs may be reported to XFree86@XFree86.Org and patches submitted
to fixes@XFree86.Org. Before reporting bugs in pre-release versions,
please check the latest version in the XFree86 CVS repository

XFree86 Version 4.1.0.1 / X Window System
(protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6510)
Release Date: 21 December 2001
If the server is older than 6-12 months, or if your card is
newer than the above date, look for a newer version before
reporting problems.

Code:
(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVdriver kernel module!
Sounds like the module didn't install correctly. Did you run make install as root?

My Linux is a Debian Woody updated, with the NVIDIA driver installed with apt-get... and I think that it was well compiled.

Do you have any other idea?

Thanks

(Sorry about my bad English... I´m Brazilian...)

I had a problem like this and there are a few solutions
one is disable tv-out (any anything in ur XF86Config-4 file that is liek
Option "Twinview"

etc...
also disconnect ur tv-out cable

and finally
I had to change my modeline to a custom one that would run my device at 1280x1024 @ 60hZ

i had a no screens found error as well.....turns out that there were some bios settings that the nvidia driver didn't like. after setting "plug and play os" to NO and assign "IRQ to VGA (or it may be AGP on some bios')" to YES it worked just fine. i don't know if this would help you or not but it may be worth a try.
